Description:
Germination is the process by which a seed develops into a new plant. It begins when a seed absorbs water, swells, and breaks its outer coat. The embryo inside starts to grow, forming roots that anchor the plant and shoots that grow upward. Germination requires the right conditions of water, oxygen, and warmth. As the plant grows, it uses stored nutrients from the seed until it can produce its own food through photosynthesis.
